Companies Benefit from R&D Investments from the Government of Canada
January 27 - The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, talks with David Small, Technical Program Manager of SPIELO about the company's research into a new class of entertainment games based on the principle of responsible gaming at today's Atlantic Innovation Foundation (AIF) announcement in Moncton.
SPIELO will receive approximately $1.9 million over an 18 month period from AIF to create a Responsible Gaming Player Tracking Module which will give operators a set of flexible software tools to assist in the creation and management of responsible gaming programs. read more

Government of Canada Invests $62.4 Million in R&D to Drive Growth in Atlantic Canada
January 25 - As part of a series of announcements investing $62.4 under the Atlantic Innovation Fund, Minister of Defence Peter MacKay (pictured here on the right) recently toured the IWK’s Laboratory for Clinical Magnetoencephalography (MEG) with Dr. Ryan Darcy (left). The IWK received $1.8 million in funding to commercialize innovative technology that uses highly sensitive sensors to detect and record electrical activity in the brain. read more

An ACOA Client That’s Out of This World
Nautel Ltd., a radio and communications beacon manufacturer located in Hacket's Cove, Nova Scotia, has earned an international reputation as a world leader in the development and manufacture of high power solid state radio broadcast transmitters, with products in more than 160 countries on every continent and in every climate – arctic, desert and tropics alike.
While ACOA funding has helped the company develop its radio transmitter business, more recently, Nautel has been working with Ad Astra Rocket Company in Houston, Texas to develop a smaller and more efficient plasma generator. The new golf bag-sized generator has the potential to radically reduce travel time for space missions, shortening a trip to Mars from upwards of one year to a mere 39 days.
