Potential Supply and Costs of Natural Gas in Canada, CERI, 2003
The Canadian Energy Research Institute (CERI) produced the report Potential Supply and Costs of Natural Gas in Canada in partnership with 17 funding organizations, including the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). CERI is a co-operative research organization established by government and industry parties in 1975. CERI's mission is to produce relevant, independent, objective economic research and education in energy and environmental issues to benefit business, government and the public.
Report Overview
This report extends CERI's previous supply and costs of natural gas model, developed for the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) (principally Alberta), to include other regions in Canada including the East Coast offshore. Using the revised model, this report estimates the size of the economically recoverable natural gas resource base and provides a 20-year "indicative profile" for Canadian gas production.
The report provides an assessment of the responsiveness to price signals of East Coast offshore natural gas development, including Scotian Shelf, Grand Bank and offshore Labrador gas deposits. Deep water natural gas deposits are not assessed here, as there is insufficient resource or economic data to support the model. (A report summary with a focus on Atlantic Canada is attached.)
