Atlantic Growth Strategy
The drive to thrive - working together for Atlantic Canadian prosperity!
Ability, capacity and possibility all live in Atlantic Canada.
Atlantic Canada possesses competitive advantages that bring new opportunities to economic growth. The region is home to great ideas, great products, great innovators, and a great drive to succeed!
To that end, the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces are working together to build a vibrant economic future for Atlantic Canada by focussing their efforts and resources to stimulate the region's economy, support the middle class and address both longstanding and emerging regional challenges.
Here's how both levels of government will achieve this goal.
A new all-inclusive, pan-Atlantic, whole-of-government approach - the Atlantic Growth Strategy - will harness the region's assets to strategically:
- identify shared economic priorities and collaborate on the design and implementation of actions
- emphasize region-wide measures
- align actions with national and provincial priorities
- engage and consult with the region's stakeholders, entrepreneurs, as well as Indigenous, community and industry leaders
- monitor progress and report publicly on results
Together, the federal and provincials governments are playing the long game - sustainable prosperity in Atlantic Canada for generations to come.
Five action areas + one team effort = #AtlanticGrowth!
Atlantic Canada's natural collaborative spirit helps define who Atlantic Canadians are. The Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces share a common vision to undertake cooperative actions that will bring stable and long-term economic prosperity in Atlantic Canada. Now, more than ever, it's time to take action by focusing on five areas aimed at stimulating economic growth in the region:
To enhance the region's capacity to develop, deploy and retain a skilled workforce by addressing persistent and emerging labour market needs and making Atlantic Canada a destination of choice for immigrants, while also supporting labour market participation for unemployed and underemployed Canadians, including under-represented groups such as Indigenous peoples, older workers, and persons with disabilities.
To foster greater business innovation by supporting the scaling up of small firms, technology transfer, the commercialization of research, and the generation of new breakthrough ideas in areas such as bioscience, aquaculture, ocean technology and renewable energy, while also spurring value-added opportunities in established industries like the fisheries, agriculture and forestry which are the foundation of Atlantic Canada's economy.
Clean growth and climate change
To stimulate economic growth, create clean jobs, and drive innovation in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Trade and investment
To expand business activities between Atlantic Canada and international markets, and strategically market the region as a whole by displaying the best Atlantic Canada has to offer the world to attract new investments and grow tourism.
To invest in regionally significant infrastructure projects that support long-term growth in Atlantic Canada and position the region to capitalize on global trade opportunities by attracting investment and enhancing productivity.
The Leadership Committee will work together to advance inclusive growth in Atlantic Canada through enhanced federal and provincial collaboration! Meet the team of Federal Ministers and Provincial Premiers who will be leading the effort to build a vibrant economic future for Atlantic Canada.
