FEDERAL AND PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENTS INVEST IN WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

November 12, 2013 - FREDERICTON (N.B.)

LearnSphere Canada Inc. officially launched LearnSphere Online, an e-learning platform aimed at improving the competitiveness and overall business performance of small and medium-sized enterprises, thanks to investments by the Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick.

The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Member of Parliament for Fredericton, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), and the Honourable David Alward, Premier of New Brunswick, joined LearnSphere Canada officials to make the announcement today.

“Our Government is proud to support projects like these which expand economic opportunities for Atlantic Canadians,” said MP Ashfield.  “A commitment to continual business training and learning is a characteristic of successful small and medium-sized enterprises.  Initiatives like LearnSphere Online work to enhance the competitiveness and growth of our businesses, all of which contribute to the long-term economic stability of our region’s economy.”

LearnSphere Online, powered by CoursePark, will help respond to some of New Brunswick’s HR and workforce development challenges by providing New Brunswick’s small and medium-sized enterprises  and non-profit organizations equal access to convenient, user-friendly and affordable online training.

“Investing in innovative training for small and medium-sized businesses is an important part of our government’s plan to create jobs and rebuild the economy,” said Alward.  “By providing access to affordable and convenient online training that improves productivity, LearnSphere Online helps our local businesses grow and create employment in our communities.”

CoursePark is a cloud-based learning management system developed by Bluedrop Performance Learning (TSX-V:BPL) in response to an overwhelming need to simplify learning for employees and improve overall performance of SMEs. LearnSphere selected Bluedrop’s CoursePark as its learning platform because of its ease of use and unique functionalities.

“LearnSphere has been at the forefront of instructor-led training for over 15 years, and now we are evolving to a blended-learning solution through LearnSphere Online,” said Annette Comeau, President and CEO of LearnSphere Canada. “Our intent is to extend our reach and make continuous training and learning accessible and affordable for everyone, thereby increasing competitiveness and productivity in the region.”

The federal government, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s (ACOA) Business Development Program (BDP), is investing $500,000 and the Province of New Brunswick is also investing $500,000 in the initiative.
