FEDERAL STIMULUS FUNDS SUPPORT FOGO’S NEED FOR RECREATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE

October 15, 2009 - Fogo, Newfoundland and Labrador

The Town of Fogo’s playground is being improved with the
support of the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence,
Minister for the Atlantic Gateway and Minister Responsible
for Newfoundland and Labrador announced more than $8,300 in
support for the project under the Recreational
Infrastructure Canada program, a key component of the
Action Plan.

“Community recreational facilities create an environment
where our young people can enjoy the benefits of physical
activity close to home,” said Minister MacKay. “Through
this investment, under Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the
Town of Fogo will provide a safe playground area with new
equipment for children in the community to enjoy for years
to come.”

Plans include the installation of new equipment to provide
a safe, structured playground area for children in the
community.

Canada’s Economic Action Plan is providing $500 million
over two years for the RInC program to support the
upgrading and renewal of recreational facilities in
communities, and to encourage increased participation in
physical activity and community building.

Municipalities, First Nations governments, community
organizations and other
not-for-profit entities in Atlantic
Canada that have eligible projects that can be completed
before March 31, 2011, are invited to submit their
proposals.
