GOVERNMENT OF CANADA INVESTS $500,000 IN EXPANSION OF BARRINGTON BUSINESS PARK

January 19, 2010 - Barrington, Nova Scotia

The Government of Canada is helping to strengthen community infrastructure and improve economic
development capacity by investing in the expansion of the Business Park project.

Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South Shore-St. Margaret’s, on behalf of the honourable
Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, today announced an investment of $500,000 to assist the
Municipality of Barrington expand the park. The contribution is being made through the Atlantic
Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), under the Innovative Communities Fund.

“This is what the Innovative Communities Fund is all about,” said MP Keddy. “By assisting
communities to pursue strategic economic development opportunities, we help identify and exploit
local strengths and help them position themselves for long-term growth.”

The Government of Canada contribution will support phase one of the Barrington Business Park
project, an initiative aimed at improving Barrington’s capacity to attract and retain industrial
and commercial companies. Phase one work will include site preparation, upgrading of water mains
and installation of fibre optics.

“This support will allow us to expand and upgrade our business park, which will in turn strengthen
our capacity to attract new industry to the area,” said Louise Halliday, Warden of the
Municipality. “This presents exciting new opportunities for Barrington, in the form of long-term
employment, new businesses and enhanced collaboration between the municipality and its regional
economic development and government partners.”

The project is expected to create immediate short-term employment opportunities and subsequent long-
term employment opportunities as new businesses are established. Once in place, the new
infrastructure will help the community to take advantage of industrial investment opportunities and
to market itself as an investment-ready site.
