GOVERNMENT OF CANADA INVESTS IN COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE TOWN OF RICHIBUCTO AND THE VILLAGE OF SAINT-LOUIS-DE-KENT

 

June 25, 2013 - FREDERICTON, (N.B)

The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and the Atlantic Gateway, today announced funding support for infrastructure improvements for both the Town of Richibucto and the Village of Saint-Louis-de-Kent.

Investments totalling more than $86,900 from the Government of Canada will provide necessary infrastructure additions to allow both communities to host the 34th edition of the Jeux de l’Acadie, taking place from June 26 – 30, 2013.

“I am proud to see the Town of Richibucto and the Village of Saint-Louis-de-Kent benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund as they prepare to host the June 2013 Jeux de l’Acadie,” said Minister Ashfield.  “By improving local community infrastructure, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians.”

The Town of Richibucto project includes the repair and updating of the track and field facility and the replacement of the old asphalt with new asphalt.  The Village of Saint-Louis-de-Kent, project includes fencing, the repair and paving with Plexipave of two existing tennis courts and an expansion to allow for a third tennis court.

The Government of Canada, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF) is investing $44,500 in the Town of Richibucto, while the Town of Richibucto is investing $42,731.  For the Village of Saint-Louis-de-Kent, the Government of Canada is investing $42,419 under the CIIF while the Village of Saint-Louis-de-Kent is investing $41,419.

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the government announced plans to further modernize Canada’s infrastructure by committing $150 million over two years for the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. The CIIF supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is delivering the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund in Atlantic Canada with an allocation of $16.6 million over two years.
