GOVERNMENTS OF CANADA AND NEW BRUNSWICK INVEST IN NORTHUMBERLAND CO-OPERATIVE LTD.

New research and development initiative will help dairy producer stay ahead of the game

March 11, 2014 - Miramichi, NB

The Northumberland Co-operative Ltd. will undertake research and development of a value-added milk based drink  designed to meet consumer’s ever increasing demand for quality and healthy beverages, thanks to investments by the Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick.

Tilley O’Neill Gordon, Member of Parliament for Miramichi, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for New Brunswick and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), and the Honourable Robert Trevors, Minister of Human Resources, on behalf of Economic Development Minister Bruce Fitch, joined Northumberland Co-operative officials to make the announcement today.

The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, is investing $23,238 and the Province of New Brunswick is investing $25,000 in the initiative.  Northumberland Co-operative Ltd. is contributing $9,856 toward this project.

• Since its beginnings in 1942, Northumberland has grown into a well known, leading brand in New Brunswick. Northumberland is primarily a processor of fluid milk, broker/distributor as well a Co-op Supply center, and food service supplier.
