Federal and Provincial Governments Participate in Grand Re-Opening of Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre

Government officials announce $285,000 towards the improved community centre

June 07, 2014 - St. Andrews, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)

Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre celebrated the grand re-opening of their newly renovated building today in St. Andrews.

Representatives of the federal and provincial governments joined officials from Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre for a ribbon cutting to officially mark the completion of the renovations and announce government support toward the improved Centre.  Participants included John Williamson, Member of Parliament for New Brunswick Southwest, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), and Curtis Malloch, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Charlotte-Campobello, on behalf Honorable Paul Robichaud, Minister of Natural Resources and minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The project includes the construction of a new ground floor addition to Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre, as well as upgrades to accommodate needed space for additional programming and events related to the arts, music, and natural history.

The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF), invested $100,000 while the Province of New Brunswick contributed $185,000.

  • Sunbury Shores has been an arts and cultural focal point of St. Andrews since 1964.
  • For 50 years the Centre has promoted an environment for learning and creative development by offering a range of programs, workshops, residencies and explorations for individuals and small groups.
  • Prince Phillip had the first North American exhibition of his photography at Sunbury Shores.
