Global Glove Operation Making Impact on Local Economy

Government of Canada support announced today to help Superior Glove Works Limited expand its Point Leamington operation

May 25, 2016 - Point Leamington, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

One of North America’s leading work glove manufacturers is continuing to make an impact in rural Newfoundland and Labrador as it moves forward with expansion plans at its Point Leamington facility. During an event held at Superior Glove Works’ facility today, Scott Simms, Member of Parliament for Coast of Bays—Central—Notre Dame, announced funding for the project, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The Government of Canada is providing a repayable contribution of $1.3 million to assist the company with expanding its Point Leamington facility, purchasing specialized machinery to produce engineered cut resistant yarn and increasing production capacity. Superior Glove Works is planning a 20,000 foot expansion to the existing 60,000 foot plant.

As a result of this initiative, the company will be able to hire additional employees, meet increased market demand for its products and further expand its reach into export markets such as the United States.

Superior Glove Works Limited was established in 1961 and currently manufactures more than 3000 styles of work gloves and sleeves for industries such as aerospace, automotive, oil and gas and metal fabrication. In addition to the Point Leamington manufacturing facility, which is its innovation centre for cut resistant products, the company has three other facilities located in Ontario, the United States and China.
